Ahead of the Storm - Day 6
Sasserine, Six Months Ago
Having only been in Sasserine for a few weeks now, I must admit to being impressed with the city's defenses. At this moment of last stand against the encroaching undead forces, never did the guards falter in their defensive wall around the city, keeping the evil monsters from entering and harming a single townsfolk. It certainly reassures me to see such admirable work, after enduring the sight of half-orc mercenaries everywhere for the past while in Cauldron.
Thus, in many ways, I am happy to have left that city behind. Yet, in other ways, I will miss it, proud of some of the results I earned there in my early career as a cleric.
Though much of that success I owe to Eadfrid.
The Amalgamation of the churches that I worked so hard to achieve in the past year was his idea, to begin with. I merely kept spreading the word among those who were more likely to listen to a humble human than an imposing mummy. Though, to be sure, Jenya would likely never have been convinced were it not for the logical explanations I countered to her every question.
In the end, though, it was clearly what was best for the city. Too long had it been divided along lines of religious conflict - this alliance of all faiths made both moral and practical sense, in terms of helping the city unite in this time of rebuilding, and rebirth.
Speaking of rebirth, my last act before leaving Cauldron was to rebuilt the SONOAH Shelter for the Homeless, that Eadfrid had once constructed and asked me to manage for him. Seeing it lost on the day of the eruption had been heartbreaking for us all - yet now it stands once more, greater and brighter than ever - a beacon of goodness to shine as an example for everyone, of what good we should do unto those less fortunate than us.
And so, with those good deeds in my past, that is how I came to be offered the High Priesthood of the Church of St-Cuthbert in the mighty city of Sasserine. This surely was an honor I could not refuse. And I swear now onto St-Cuthbert, and all the other Gods of the Amalgamation, that I will do my best to fulfill my duties as High Priest, spreading the word of Law and Justice throught Sasserine's Cudgel District where my new post resides.
And in time, who knows? Perhaps I can begin work on spreading the Amalgamation to Sasserine as well. The city's religious divisions are certainly greater than Cauldron's ever were - but such a challenge could be quite rewarding.
We shall see what the future brings.
And Eadfrid, wherever you are right now, all I can say is... THANK YOU.
